The meat-eating Maga diet leaving nutritionists exasperated

“We have reduced our fried potatoes,” announced the CEO of Operations at the American Fast Chain Steak ‘N Shake proudly, as he announced that the 90 -year -old company will start Cooking chips in beef fat instead of seed oils Earlier this year.

At any other point in history, changing the recipe will be not noticeable. But it was a symbol of a major shift in the American food industry during the reign of Donald Trump.

Restaurants across the United States abandoned seed oils such as turnip seeds and canola in favor of beef fat – or cut – and other traditional fats amid concerns about their alleged health effect.

Robert F. Kennedy Junior – known as RFK JR – the new Minister of Health of Trump, claimed that seed oils “poisoned” the nation’s residents and “betraying” their children, describing them as “one of the most unhealthy ingredients we have in foods.”

These allegations have gained nutrition experts and other experts, and insisted that seed oils are completely safe. But that only did a little to crush a prosperous violent reaction.

“I generally think that our country hopes to wake up a little to see that there are many sick people, and trying to consider the reasons behind this,” says Nicole Defis, the regional head of the blue collar restaurants, who run dozens of restaurants in Wyoming and Montana. The company replaced the seed oil for cow meat at the end of 2024.

The fork is used to be cow meat that fat in frying brands such as McDonald’s, King and Windows burger, and is often associated with the explosion of the American fast food sector in the fifties. Over the following contracts, most of them have turned into cheaper seed oils.

“I love to stay away from seed oils in my escape, but it is a budget,” adds Court Zdisar, who owns a group of restaurants, Shoto Matti, sites in San Francisco and Miami.

“We serve a variety of customers including vegetarians and vegetarians and those who have religious food needs, so using beef fat will exclude many. If you have a fried chicken store where 100 percent of the menu is fried, I will seriously consider using it.”

However, given that more and more restaurants exchange oils for grease, there are questions about whether the offer will be able to meet the demand. The production of US soybean oil was about 15 billion pounds last year, compared to about 1 billion pounds of grease.

“Someone wants to use cow meat fat, this is great, but there is also not near to replace all seed oils,” Calip Rajland, head of the American Soy Soy Society, told the Wall Street Journal this month.

Davis is afraid that the market will get sick with the cheapest possible varieties as a result.

“You have companies that now jump on the larger cart, but they use really low quality,” she says. She says the grease is more expensive than the seed oils for its work, but it lasts longer in the pans and has improved the taste of many dishes as well.

Doubts seed seeds of seed did not start with Kennedy. Many food industry criticizes its use for some time. “I have been familiar with the benefits of beef and fears about seed oils almost since 2011,” says Zadisar.

“We need to trust that our governments and institutions are working in our best interest, but the FDA is often affected and other organizational bodies by pressure groups that pay their products, and sometimes at the expense of public health.

“We all know, in depths, that what we eat deeply affects our health.”

However, the appointment of Kennedy-a long critic of an unhealthy eating, as well as his well-known fears about the vaccines-who set fire to the movement and brought it more to the main current.

“There has been a tremendous transformation in the past six months, and I think many of them should come from these big public figures,” says Davis. “President Trump supported and stood behind him and believed in the things he said, and she is in the news now.”

However, she says: “It is not a political thing for me. Why don’t we want to be in good health as much as possible? I want my children to flourish and be in good health, and I do not want to enter these chemicals in their bodies.

“So I am excited to see if we can make some changes.”

RFK and Trump

Seed oils are not the only food in Kennedy.

He pledged to lock dyes and colors in the food, and supported a ban on some super -treated foods in the school cafe in Arizona and carried to ban people from using food stamps to buy soft drinks.

His rejection of highly treated foods has always been repeated by other personalities usually linked to the Maga movement, such as “anti -market” professor, author Jordan Peterson, Podcast and Comedy Joe Rogan.

For example, Peterson and Rogan acknowledged the so-called “meat-eating system”, according to which animal products such as meat, eggs, seafood and dairy are allowed and strictly banned foods-although Rogan admitted that the diet gave him “Uber-DiarRhoea”.

Supporters of diet say it gives them more energy and mental clarity, and even claims that they heal them from the symptoms of autoimmune diseases. Modern reports indicate that they are now more popular than the low -carbohydrate keto system and high fat that has become common in 2010.

“People have lost all this weight, and they feel a great improvement. We do not have all the answers, but if this helps people, then why not? We have an obesity epidemic here in the United States,” says Philip Miss, founder of Carlivore Bar, who sells alternative tapes of 100pc cows.

Mays believes that the movement of meat animals derives from the longing for the most simple and more “grandparent” of eating among consumers.

“It is also an eager note that something we do in modernity exacerbates the issue of chronic health, especially here in the states – we are on zero to destroy your health,” he says.

However, scientists are less enthusiastic about some of the ways in which America’s eating approach changes. Some warn that there are risks of high -fat foods such as beef and eating a lot of red meat.

“Return to the fork, as in the 1950s, will return to a time when the heart disease mortality rate was five times higher,” says Walter Willet, a professor of epidemics and nutrition at Harvard University.

“Many factors have contributed to low heart disease, but the shift to high unsaturated fat (about three to four times now in the United States) was an important factor.

“Unfortunately, this has become a partial political issue, and it should not be. It is a matter of science and health.”

Marion Nestle, professor of nutrition, food studies and public health, notes that the reverse reaction against seed and processed foods can be seen partially as a reaction to prosperity in vegetable meals in the last half of 2010.

It is often associated with liberal or left -wing policy, and the popularity of plant foods has decreased in recent years at the same time that America has turned towards the political right.

Professor Nestlé refers to the comments of Brock Rollins, the new US Agriculture Minister, who promised to clarify “leftist ideologies” of government food guidelines in March.

“It took me some time to understand what it means, but it should be plants. In this way of thinking, advanced diets, left meals and right -wing diets,” she says. “For me, this is confusing the mind.”

Alejandro Morgan, the owner of a vegetarian and iladide restaurant in San Francisco. “Unfortunately, everything is politicized at the present time,” he says, “There has been a discussion about this for many years, but it seems before it was more dependent on science.

“It is difficult to find an oil that is not seeds for cooking everyone when you are cooking vegetable. I am almost afraid to say that the oil-supporting oils-with moderation, like everything in life-because I have been accused of financing them by” large seed oil companies “, he adds.

Professor Nestle says she supports Kennedy’s goal to make America healthy again. However, it argues that a really comprehensive plan to do this will include the availability of healthy food “available and accessible at reasonable prices for everyone. This may include restrictions on marketing, sizes of parts and even taxes on food and unhealthy drink, instead of just getting rid of seed oils and eating more meat.

“I don’t see RFK JR a lot about it, except for obtaining soft and sweet drinks from [food stamp schemes]. This is not anywhere close to dealing with the fact that 75 % of American adults suffer from weight gain or obesity, “she says.

“To make America healthy again, it means that eating is less. Eating is very bad to work.”
