JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – After a quiet week with virtually no severe weather, Region 8 now finds itself in the center of a Low (level 2/5) threat.

The threat is for a few severe storms developing Thursday afternoon, capable of producing large hail and potentially a tornado or two.

All of the Arkansas counties in Region 8 are under a level 2/5 threat, with southern Missouri being under a level 1/5 threat.

LOW Level 2/5 Risk for severe storms now across Region 8 for Thursday Afternoon.

Timing

This will be an afternoon event with storms developing a little past the lunch hour and moving to the east. The coverage of storms will not be all that high, so exact timing remains in flux. Some may miss out on rain altogether, but those who do see rain will likely experience a strong to severe storm.

West of I-57: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

East of I-57: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Hazards

Large hail is going to be the main risk with any storm that develops during the evening. Some of this hail could be greater than 2 inches in diameter.

The tornado threat is very low but not zero. A rotating storm is not out of the question, but any tornado that forms should be short-lived and weak.

Large hail is the main threat with any storm, but a brief tornado cannot be ruled out.
