Live injury updates

Lamar Jackson’s will not play on Sunday night against the Atlanta Falcons after being ruled out with an ankle injury. The Baltimore Ravens quarterback was hurt during their Week 4 win over the Tennessee Titans. Tyler Huntley had to finish the game and will start this week.

Ravens head coach Jesse Minter had said that Jackson didn’t necessarily need to practice in order to be available. There was reportedly an “outside” chance he wouldn’t miss any time, but after not practicing this week the team decided to rule him out.

A pair of offensive weapons will be missing for the Philadelphia Eagles when they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. Running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver DeVonta Smith will both miss Week 5 as they are dealing with hamstring injuries.

Barkley was hurt during last week’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams — a game that Smith missed due to his injury.

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was a full participant in practice on Thursday and was given the green light to return against the New York Giants. Daniels suffered a dislocated elbow in Week 2, but will now sport a brace on his non-throwing arm for the rest of the season.

Other Week 5 injuries to monitor:

  • A grade 2 hamstring strain has kept Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams out since Week 2. He’s returned to practice on Friday and is being listed as questionable. Running back Kyle Monangai was ruled out with a turf toe injury and is week-to-week.

  • Ja’Marr Chase will be questionable as he remains in concussion protocol afer returning to practice on Thursday. Fellow Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins is day-to-day, according to head coach Zac Taylor, with adductor and neck injuries.

  • Aaron Donald (back) missed Week 4 for the Los Angeles Rams, but his presence at practice on Thursday was an encouraging sign for his availability Monday night against the Buffalo Bills. Donald was limited, but head coach Sean McVay said “the hope is yes” that the eight-time All-Pro will be on the field.

  • A left ankle injury kept him out last week, but Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson said he plans to play against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Head coach Kevin O’Connell said Jefferson is questionable.

Los Angeles Chargers left tackle Rashawn Slater was placed on injured reserve Friday following ankle surgery. He was already listed as out for Week 5 on the team’s injury report.

Slater, 27, suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Chargers’ 30-23 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 4. He underwent a “tightrope” procedure (stabilizing the tibia and fibula with a cord-and-button device) in hopes of accelerating his recovery, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported. But he will miss at least four games by going on IR.

The Denver Broncos are placing wide receiver Pat Bryant on short-term injured reserve with the ankle injury he sustained during a Week 4 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

That means Bryant will miss, at minimum, four games. Prior to this setback, he was starting to come into his own in his second NFL season. The 2025 third-round pick from Illinois currently ranks second on the team with 133 receiving yards.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will miss Sunday night’s game against the Atlanta Falcons with an ankle sprain, head coach Jesse Minter announced.

Jackson suffered a sprained ankle during Baltimore’s 24-18 win over the Tennessee Titans last week. He did not return to the field for the second half and was spotted leaving the locker room in a walking boot.

Head coach Jesse Minter had said that Jackson didn’t necessarily need to practice in order to be available. There was reportedly an “outside” chance he wouldn’t miss any time, but after not practicing this week, the team decided to rule him out.

In the days after the Rams collapse, the Eagles saw two significant personnel developments that made observers wonder if the punting kept going after the game was done. On Tuesday, Lane Johnson, the 14-year veteran right tackle and franchise mainstay, announced his retirement, effective immediately. Johnson’s departure means Philadelphia now has a major hole to fill on the line — not the situation you want to see when your team is already struggling offensively.

But Johnson’s announcement was only the prelude to the week’s big news: On Wednesday, the Eagles dealt guard/center Cam Jurgens to the Ravens for a pair of draft picks. When you’re already facing significant struggles on that side of the ball, it’s tough to rationalize trading a Pro Bowler for draft picks as anything other than a concession until those draft picks suit up.
