More than 100 killed as Air India plane with 242 on board crashes near Ahmedabad

Ahmed Abad, India (Reuters) -More than 100 people were killed when an Indian aircraft plane crashed to London with 242 people on board minutes after they set out from the West Ahmed Abad city in India on Thursday, the authorities say, one of the worst airlines in the country.

India said that the plane went to Gatwick Airport, south of the British capital, while police officers said it had crashed into a residential area near the airport.

Police said that more than 100 bodies, most of them are very charred, were brought to the local government hospital for the autopsy.

A senior police officer told reporters.

Parts of the fuselage showed around the building in which it crashed, as photographs and videos from the area showed. The plane’s tail was stuck over the building.

The TV channels at CNN News-18 in India said the plane crashed at the top of the dining area at the BJ Medical Medical College, killing many medical students as well.

A source told Reuters that the passengers included 217 adults, 11 children and two infants. Among them, 169 Indian citizens, 53 British, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian, said Air India.

FLIGHTRADAR24 Air Tracking website said the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, one of the latest passenger aircraft in the service.

This was the first crashes of Dreamliner, which began flying commercially in 2011, according to the airline safety network database. Flightradar24 said that the plane that crashed on Thursday was flew for the first time in 2013 and was delivered to Air India in January 2014.

The accident occurred immediately after the plane was launched, TV channels reported. One of the channels showed that the plane takes off on a residential area and then disappeared from the screen before seeing a huge group of fire rising to the sky from outside the houses.

The pictures also showed debris on the fire, with thick black smoke rising in the sky near the airport.

They also showed that people are moved in cows and are taken in ambulances.

“My sister was in London. Within an hour, I received news about the crash.”

Ramila, a mother of a medical school, told her son that her son went to the youth house for the lunch when the plane crashed. She said: “My son is safe, and I spoke to him. He jumped from the second floor, so he suffered from some injuries.”

According to air traffic control at Ahmedabad Airport, I left the plane at 1:39 pm (0809 GMT) from runway 23. She gave the “Mayday” call, indicating an emergency, but then there was no response from the plane.

Flightradar24 also said it had received the latter’s signal from seconds after it was launched.

One of the problematic signals from the plane videos is that the landing equipment was in a stage of flying when it is usually.

“If you don’t know what was happening, then you think this plane was on an approach in a runway,” said Bricheus.

Boeing said she was aware of the initial reports and was working to collect more information. Boeing shares decreased by 6.8 % to $ 199.13 in pre -market trade.

CNBC TV18, India, reported that the Geospace aircraft maker said he would collect a team to go to India and analyze the cockpit data.

In a statement published on its website, the Foreign Ministry said on its website that Britain was working with the Indian authorities to establish facts about the accident and provide support to the concerned ones.

“The tragedy in Ahmed Abad and our sadness surprised us,” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X. “It is a heartbreak beyond the words.”

British Prime Minister Kiir Starmer said that the pictures arising from the accident were “destroyed”, and that he was aware of the development of the situation. A spokesman for the Buckingham Palace said that King Charles was also updated.
