Saturday, July 25th. Over 135 communities (And counting) Across the United States there will be vigils, protests, and demonstrations demanding justice for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, Johan Sebastian Guerrero, and many others killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Neighbors will come together to pay their respects, pray, mourn and plead Ice out!

On the streets and across the agency’s 200-plus detention facilities riddled with abuse, ICE works to make communities less safe. Communities are demanding the ICE agents involved in these killings, the Department of Homeland Security. Markwayne Mullen, the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and all relevant agencies under the Trump administration are being held accountable.
We demand:
- Instant transparency: DHS should immediately release key witnesses to Lorenzo’s death and halt their deportation proceedings so they can safely participate in any investigation and legal proceedings.
- Complete and independent investigations: We demand a transparent investigation into these killings that includes cooperation from all law enforcement agencies and that any officer found to have committed misconduct be held accountable.
- Ice out!: We call on all state and local leaders to end the use of state resources to support federal immigration enforcement and remove ICE from our streets. The Department of Homeland Security must remove all ICE agents from the streets and all cities and states must cease all coordination with ICE.
On July 7, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Houston while driving a work truck with his crew. Just one week later, on July 13, ICE shot and killed 26-year-old Johan Sebastian Guerrero in Bedford, Maine, while his wife and young child were forced to watch his killing. Both men were beloved members of their communities, and were killed on their way to work, leaving their families devastated.
Since then, two more people have been killed in Florida and Georgia due to ICE’s chaotic and violent occupation of US cities. As ICE claims more lives, communities are becoming angrier and taking to the streets to protest and mourn together. Every day people are now demanding local and national leaders take action to stop these federal agencies from killing our neighbors, family, and friends. .
The Day of Action is being planned by volunteers, neighbors, families and organizations across the country, with support from the Disappeared in America project hosted by Public Citizen, the National Day Workers Organizing Network (NDLON), Circle of Workers, Detention Oversight Network, and the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). The basic principle behind all Disappeared in America events is a commitment to nonviolent action.
