Mount Inerie is the longest volcano on the island of Flores, and it may be just one of the corresponding volcanoes in the world. In Sunrise, it casts an ideal shadow like the natural pyramid.
Enri has recently claimed and was a great experience. There is a lot of challenge, but anyone who is hiking is suitable can do so.
I recommend using a local guide as I did, because the road to the top may be difficult to follow, and people usually begin in the dark to see the sunrise at the top.
This guide will explain how to raise INERIE, and everything you need to know before you go!
Quick statistics*
- distance: 6.5 km (4 miles) a trip and forth
- Height earning: 1100 meters (3600 feet)
- The maximum height: 2,245 meters (7365 feet)
- period: 5 – 7 hours
- difficulty: difficult
*These are approximate statistics and may vary according to your way

My Triple Directory: Alfredo Seo
I have risen in Inerie with Alfredo Sua, a local guide from Bajawa, and I strongly recommend going with him to raise your own.
I picked up from Bajawa with a motorcycle and brought all the equipment that I may need to height: lamp, gloves and walking stick.
He speaks good English as he is aware of the road on Inry, even when it looks confusing. We got to the top in time for the sunrise and waited for me happily while folding his pilot and taking a lot of pictures.
Its prices are competitive, and he asked less than another guide in Bajawa that I contacted earlier.

TrailHead: How to get there
Mount Inerie is near Bajawa, in the center of Flores.
Here is Google Maps Pin For the start site. It is only 30 minutes’ drive from the city, and if you rent a flight guide, they will usually meet you from the city and drop you there.
Bajawa is a good base for height. It has a lot of hotels, restaurants, and its small airport.
You can fly there from Labuan Bajo (the Commodo Islands Gate), or make a wild trip via Flores and hit this volcano along the way.
There is a group of great things that can be seen and done near Bajawa as well, so I recommend staying at least two days.

What do you expect: walking long distances inerie Mountain
Inerie’s height starts with beautiful tame. For the first hour or so, you walk across a forest and savanna without a lot of slope.
Things begin to become more slope when they reach volcanic rocks. It turns into loose rocks, and sometimes deep valleys that you should go through or wrap carefully. The path is difficult to follow.
It continues this until it reaches the hole. At this stage, you are only 30 minutes from the top. He continues to progress! It becomes a very storm near the top, but it is easy to follow the rest of the corridor.
It took about 3 hours and 15 minutes to reach the top, but we were moving a little on the slow side. I would like to say 3 hours average.
The summit has amazing views of the entire region. On a clear day, you can see the city of Bajawa, the Savo Sea, and the sun that rises in the distance behind the Ebu Loubu Mountain, an active volcano that usually blows smoke.

Starting from the top
Return, my guide gave me two options: we can go down in the same way that we came, or we can “browse” volcanic dirt and gravel in one of the valleys.
I decided to browse. It looked like an easy option at the time, but in the end I am not sure that it made things easier.
My shoes continued to fill rocks and dirt, and we were falling everywhere in an attempt to browse the gravel. We had to take off our shoes several times just to take out all the rocks!
However, it was fun and may have been flying some time from our return. We took about 2.5 hours to return.

Is it safe?
Yes, INERIE is safe. I was a little afraid of the descriptions that I read on other travel blogs, but it is really not so bad.
Although it is very slope and arduous, the only danger is to fall on your ass. I still recommend using evidence, because it is easy to lose the path and it may be dangerous if it goes out of the path in the dark.
Inerie is an active volcano, but the last time smoking was seen in 1911. It did not explode at any time in modern history.
You can check Smithsonian volcanic site For any reports on modern activity, but in general there is no concern.

It is a wonderful mountain
What do you bring?
- Long -distance walking shoes. Do not try to do this height without long -distance walking shoes. Often it goes on loose and gravitational stones very slope.
- gloves. Volcanic rocks can be sharp, so a pair of gloves helps in stampede sections. In this way, if you slip and a rock is seized, you will not cut your hands.
- jacket. The top can be a storm and cold, so it is good to have a light jacket. I didn’t attend one, and I was completely freezing while waiting for sunrise.
- The lamp. It is very important to be able to see the place where you go on this height. The guides usually bring an additional front lamp for you, but they tend to be cheap. It is better to bring yourself. I like to use a Bushenil or Streamlight.
- water. At least 2 liters. This is how much I brought, and that was enough, but barely. I drank all of this by the time we went back to the road.

The best time for hiking
The best time in the year to climb Enri is in the dry season, especially from May to October. I went in mid -May and the weather was free of defects, although the expectations seemed cloudy.
Your experience may vary, but I will avoid walking from December to March because there is a fair opportunity that may rain.
The best time of the day to start height is early in the morning, and in this way you can see sunrise and also the “pyramid” shade. This method allows you to overcome midday heat as well.
Unfortunately, this means that you have to wake up early. My guide and Bajawa left at 1:45 am and arrived at TrailHead at 2:15 am. With a moderate long walking, we got to the top at 5:30 am.
The best views of the sunrise came after about 15-30 minutes, so we had enough time to settle and pick up our breath before the sun got out of the horizon.
This is Inerie at its best. The mountain tends to be covered with thick clouds during the day, so the subsequent beginning may mean that you miss each of the best scenes.

Extra: People Nari Wowo Viewoint
If you can’t make a full Inerie trip, there is also a view of just 15 minutes away from the city that gives you great views of the volcano closely.
It is called Avatar Hill or “Wau Nari Wowo” and you can access the top from a point of view in only 15-30 minutes of walking long distances.
This is one of the best opinions that I saw anywhere in Indonesia!
