The future looks bright, at least according to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

Among Bezos’s predictions is that by 2045, robots will be on the move to work for us. But more importantly, he predicts that within the next decade or two, millions will enjoy life in space.
Bezos also shared his disbelief with those who predicted the fall of civilization due to artificial intelligence and technological advances. However, AI is already responsible for people losing their jobs, and the data centers needed to run the technology consume a huge amount of natural resources. Given these factors, it’s easy to see how people could predict doom and gloom with the continued use of artificial intelligence.
The potential benefits are also clear, by allowing a machine to collect vast amounts of data and draw conclusions or recommendations in minutes – and in some cases even help solve pollution and energy problems, even if we have yet to see any such solution that offsets the energy use associated with many millions of trivial AI uses every day.
The Amazon founder isn’t the only billionaire eyeing a future in space, either. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, predicts that within just a decade, off-planet university graduates will be working on exciting (and very well-paid) projects, while Elon Musk remains convinced that humans will be living on Mars by 2028.
However, not all rich people believe in space travel. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates told James Corden that he believes humanity should prioritize fixing our current planet over planning projects in space.
“Space? We have a lot to do here on Earth,” he said.
According to Fortune, Gates was “on the fence about how far we should push technology.”
While Gates said in interview With Jimmy Fallon stating that AI and machines could usher in a new era where people only have to work a few days a week while machines do the rest, he also once explained that if he came across a time traveler, he would ask them about the future of humanity under AI.
For Gates, it’s also unclear how any of the tech companies and moguls responsible for these AI innovations will plan to help these productivity increases benefit members of society who don’t work at their companies, allowing them to work less without taking a pay cut, as Gates hinted.
Pete Buttigieg is among the few politicians who have spoken publicly about the need for government engagement to help ensure that AI leads to a more utopian society rather than a more dystopian one. Saying There must be an “AI dividend” that will spread the wealth of “AI-created value.”
“I think it gives everyone a stake in the overall value that technologies create, which again is based on technologies that taxpayers paid for in the first place in the 1960s,” said Buttigieg, the former US transportation secretary. “So why don’t we all get a share? Instead of it all going to this little handful of super-rich people who are consolidating their power, but like big billionaires consolidating their power, right? We should have a tax policy that does that.”
However, Bezos remains optimistic. As he said in Italy: “I don’t see how anyone alive can be discouraged now.”
