We have discovered that the fraudsters impersonate the character of Techcrunch, leading events and communicating with companies, and pretending to be our employees when they are not at all. These bad actors use our name and reputation in an attempt to deceive reassuring companies. It drives us madness and angry us on behalf of you.
Shirt, this does not only happen to us; The fraudsters exploit the confidence that comes with the brands of the news in force to obtain their foot in the door with companies in the media industry.
Below is an example of the most common plan that we were following: the personal plagiarism of our newspapers to extract sensitive business information from reassuring goals. In many of the cases we know, the fraudsters adopted the identity of the actual employees, the formulation of what appears to be the standard media inquiry about the company’s products and a request for an introductory call.
Acute received sometimes picks up differences in email addresses that do not coincide with our real employee accreditation data. But these plans are developing quickly; Bad actors continue to improve their tactics, simulate writing methods for journalists and indicate startup trends to make their stadiums increasingly convincing. On an equal footing, the victims who agree on the phone interviews tell us that fraudsters use these calls to drill for more special details.
Why do they do this? We do not know, although reasonable guesswork is that these groups are looking for initial access to other sensitive network or information.
As for what to do about it, if someone communicates with the claim that it is from Techcrunch and you have even the slightest doubt if it is legitimate, please not only take their word. We have made it easy for you to check.
Start by checking our Techcrunch staff page. It is the fastest way to see if the person who is connected to you is actually working here. If the individual’s name is not on our list, you have got your answer there.
If you see a person’s name on our employee page, but describing our employee jobs does not retreat with the request you receive (that is, the Techcrunch Editor is suddenly interested in learning about your work!), A bad actor may try to deceive you.
