A long time ago, startups in the integration force have been chased with one stubborn question: Will technology work?
But now, with a positive positive integration force that is no longer the scientific fairy tales, a new group of startups has been established on more worldly questions: Can the reactors be built for less money? How can maintenance become simpler? Answers can mean the difference between profitability and failure.
Francesco Volp hopes to be, at least. Founder and CTO from Renaissance fusion The fusion has been studied for decades. Inspiration has been extracted from various projects over the years, which reached its climax in a unique design on the design of the integration reactor that attracts the attention of investors.
Renaissance collected a chain of 32 million euros, according to the company Techcrunch exclusively. The tour led Crédit Mutuel Impact Environment and Solidarity Revolution Box with sharing from Lowercarbon Capital. The startup plans to use this money to build a protester must prove the basic parts of its new design.
Footage with development
The integration force is to generate large quantities of clean electricity from an abundant fuel source. Most of the startups in fusion follows one of the two approaches: self -imprisonment, where the laser presses fuel pellets to ignite fusion pulses and magnetic imprisonment, where large plasma magnets are erased in long melting reactions.
The stars, the type designed by Fol, belongs to the last camp. They are defined by random transformations and bloating aimed at stabilizing plasma by working with dodges instead of fighting against them. One of the main experiences in Germany proved the authenticity of the concept, but its complex magnet was difficult to manufacture.
Grenoble’s renaissance was launched to simplify property. It is not the only company trying to do this – the other Energy – and its approach mixes instead of reinstalling.
The starting starting reactor design looks like a ribbed pipeline, each of which is decorated with a lines -like pits on a topographic map. But the lines are not Feribia. Instead, they demarcate the high temperature HTS (HTS) that determines the strange landmarks of the plasma inside.
“I really wanted to simplify it to a minimum,” Volby told Techcrunch.
He was inspired by the first simplification-fragmented tubes-from its higher research using the Windelstein 7-IS, which is a pilot stars.
He said: “When you look at this from the top, you recognize a kind of five -shape.” “So I thought, why don’t we push this to the limit. Let’s be literally cylinders – not approximate cylinders, but actual cylinders.”
Other reactor designs use cylinders, but they tend to form plasma in the form of Donat, not the root curves that determine the stars. To give his design the necessary fluctuations, Volbe relied on the work of a Spanish colleague, 3D printed a scaffold to direct cheap and flexible cables in a star form. The cables were much simpler than making them more than the complex sophisticated magnets, but the three -dimensional printing part was not marketing.
Polish simplifying the idea more. Instead of repeating the complexity of plasma in a 3D magnet, he settled it. Pipes will be painted in the Renaissance design with wide leaves of HTS magnet. In this paint, the laser will dig a series of thin winding lines that surround the tube. These magnets will separate the following.
In the points where the super -connected lines are wider, the magnetic field will be stronger. They will push more strongly against the plasma in the tube. When the material is thinner, the magnetic field will be weaker, allowing plasma to swell. The precise shape of the plasma will be determined by advanced computer simulations.
To protect tubes from neutrons that fly from the reaction of fusion, the renaissance will shower inside with liquid lithium. To ensure that the liquid flows on the wall and does not drip on the plasma, the company applies an electric current to the liquid metal, giving it a magnetic field that attracts it to the strong magnet on the outer surface of the tubes. Small fields will be hung inside the liquid, which contains molten bullets as part of the neutron bombing. The liquid blanket will also make the triple duty by raising more fuel for the reactor and moving heat to steam turbines.
Magnetic carpets
Volby said that the Renaissance is on the right path to produce wide “carpets” in the coming months. The protester, who will integrate HTS, must be a liquid lithium walls, ready by the end of 2026. Volpe hopes that the start starting to build a full star by the early thirties of the twentieth century, a timetable similar to other startups.
Volp hopes that the protester will prove that the concept is greater than its all parts, and each of them was promising on its own, but together it could pave the way for a cheaper integration reactor. “It connects the points. It is the essence of inspiration.”
