Following a major Covenant attack in Paramount’s Halo series, Master Chief’s Silver Team teases a powerful and classic Spartan weapon from the games.
Warning! SPOILERS for Halo episode 6.
Following a massive attack by the alien forces of the Covenant, Paramount’s Halo series sees Master Chief and his fellow Spartans preparing for their next encounter in Halo episode 6, teasing one of the most powerful weapons from the games. While many of the Covenant’s weapons are energy- and plasma-based, the UNSC does have a few advanced tech weapons of their own, with one specifically used by Spartan soldiers. After this new tease, the Spartan Laser could be seen in future action sequences.
In Halo episode 6, the UNSC is recovering from the airstrike they suffered at the hands of the Covenant. Not only were waves of ground troops deployed consisting of Grunts, Jackals, Elites, and even a Brute, a squadron of Banshee aircraft was launched to strafe the UNSC’s base and their command ship. Now, it looks as though Master Chief and his unit Silver Team intend to be ready for the next time they clash with the alien empire.

Back on the UNSC world of Reach, it’s revealed that Halo’s Spartans Kai-125, Vannak-134, and Riz-028 have been tasked with familiarizing themselves with the latest upgrades that have become available. This includes the M6E G/GNR, better known by its in-game nickname as the Spartan Laser (or “Splaser”). According to the canon of the games and novels, Spartan Lasers are the most expensive and powerful weapons created by the UNSC, designed in tandem with the Spartan’s MJOLNIR armor (hence the name). Vannak and Riz also confirm that the anti-vehicle weapon is capable of five shots before its battery needs to be exchanged, the same maximum charge capacity seen in many of the games.
Seeing as how Halo’s Spartans and their MJOLNIR armor have been active in the UNSC for some time, it’s interesting that the Spartan Laser is being presented as something that’s brand new. Even so, it does make sense that the gun would be saved for later on in the season, given the impressive spectacle it will undoubtedly create. As seen in the games, the powerful laser gun is capable of destroying enemy tanks with ease. It will certainly come in handy should Master Chief and Silver Team face off against the Covenant’s Banshees in future episodes.
Hopefully, the Spartan Laser will be more than a quick Easter egg, as the spectacular action of this weapon (and many others yet to be seen) is certain to be taxing on the TV show’s budget and special effects department. Seeing it in action would be very satisfying, especially after the Covenant’s definitive victory in the previous episode. Considering the fact that the Halo’s classic (and overpowered) Covenant Needler was teased before its full action-filled debut in a following episode, the odds are looking good for the appearance of the Spartan Laser, as the Halo TV show continues.
