The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent Gets Multilingual Trailer for Global Movie Day

Lionsgate has just released a new trailer for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Hyping the film as the “most Nicolas Cage movie ever,” the trailer provides a sneak peek at Cage playing himself in an action-packed adventure that will see him channeling his most famous film roles in order to save his family. In honor of Global Movie Day, Lionsgate’s new trailer provides plenty of new footage with the dubbed dialogue from a variety of languages. You can watch the video below.

The official synopsis reads: “Creatively unfulfilled and facing financial ruin, the fictionalized version of Cage must accept a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a dangerous superfan (Pedro Pascal). Things take a wildly unexpected turn when Cage is recruited by a CIA operative (Tiffany Haddish) and forced to live up to his own legend, channeling his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters in order to save himself and his loved ones. With a career built for this very moment, the seminal award-winning actor must take on the role of a lifetime: Nick Cage.”

Tom Gormican directs and co-wrote the screenplay with Kevin Etten. Etten and Cage produced with Mike Nilon, Kristin Burr, and Kevin Turen. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent stars Nicolas Cage, Pedro Pascal, Sharon Horgan, Ike Barinholtz, Alessandra Mastronardi, Jacob Scipio, Lily Sheen, Neil Patrick Harris, and Tiffany Haddish.

Nicolas Cage Wasn’t Overly Excited to Play Himself

Nicolas Cage has taken on a wide variety of roles over the years, but the idea of playing himself in a film is different. The actor addressed the film in a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, and while he’s playing a fictionalized version of himself, Cage was still not very excited about taking on the “Nick Cage” role in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. That changed when he saw the screenplay, as he appreciated the creative vision.

“[‘Nick Cage’] is an invented version of Nic Cage,” Cage said. “The character is feeling unfulfilled and contending with the rejection that can happen so often in the small town that is Hollywood. It’s not me. I’m feeling pretty good about things. I wasn’t too excited about the idea of playing myself, but when Tom sent me this script, Nicky reminded me a little of Jerry Lewis’ Buddy Love in The Nutty Professor. I always admired what he did with that movie. For me, Nicky steals the show.”

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent was named as one of the headliners at this year’s SXSW film festival in Austin, Texas. The film festivals and conferences are going down from March 11-20, 2022. This will give those in attendance an opportunity to see what could be Cage’s most wild role yet ahead of its wider release. Also included with the headliners is the Channing Tatum and Sandra Bullock vehicle The Lost City from filmmakers Adam and Aaron Nee.

For its wide release, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is scheduled to drop on April 22, 2022.
