Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One Trailer Sees Tom Cruise Running to Save the World

The time has come to pick a side in the first official trailer for the much-anticipated action sequel, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. Following a leak that was quickly shut down, Paramount Pictures has now released the trailer in all its glory, with the footage teasing a whole lot of punching, driving and, of course, running for Tom Cruise as he gears up to bring the story of IMF Agent Ethan Hunt to an action-packed end.

While the plot details remain a mystery, frankly, the plot is not the most important thing when it comes to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. No, instead, that honor falls upon the action sequences and death-defying stunts, which the trailer teases in spades, as Tom Cruise and the rest of his Mission: Impossible crew shoot at anything that moves, drive quickly away from anything that chases them, and makes ludicrously dangerous leaps to escape.

As he has done so many times before, Cruise runs, and runs, and runs all over the world in the name of stopping the bad guys and saving us all. The footage teases several of the major set pieces that have long been known to get in Ethan Hunt’s way as he attempts to obtain the latest MacGuffin, including what looks like an extended sequence on a train (which will intentionally rekindle memories of the very first Mission: Impossible outing) and a leap from a motorcycle off a mountain. Something which we have known Tom Cruise would be performing for some time, the epic footage of which is used to close out the trailer.

Alongside all the action movie excitement and chaos, the trailer also provides our first look at actor Henry Czerny as Eugene Kittridge, the former director of the IMF last seen in the first Mission: Impossible. Based on the footage, Kittridge will play a major role in proceedings, with he and Hunt facing off several times in the trailer as the sleazy figure from Hunt’s past challenges the IMF Agent’s beliefs more than ever before.

Kittridge and a familiar sequence atop a train are likely just some of the ghosts from Hunt’s past returned to haunt him in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. The movie, along with its sequel, is expected to bring the legacy of Ethan Hunt to an end, with Tom Cruise retiring from the role. A role that he first played way, way back in 1996.

With this in mind, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Part Two will no doubt be more explosive and dramatic than ever, with the intention to bring the Tom Cruise franchise to a fitting conclusion and cement both the Mission: Impossible series and Ethan Hunt as one of the action movie greats.

Written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One stars Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Frederick Schmidt, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Esai Morales, Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell, Indira Varma, Mark Gatiss, and Cary Elwes.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is scheduled for release in the United States on July 14, 2023 by Paramount Pictures. The final sequel, Dead Reckoning Part Two, is scheduled to be released on June 28, 2024.
